HBO did you dump out?

15 08 2007

Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ…

I will start by saying that John From Cincinnati is (was) arguably one of the most creative shows to ever make it onto television. Obviously, this is only my belief as HBO has taken it away from the viewers. I am sure that they have done their homework and found out that there is no market for such a witty, creative, quirky, and intriguing hour of entertainment.

My findings today may beg to differ. As soon as I heard that the show was canceled I felt an immediate urge to ban together and fight this decision. So, I created a “Save John” Yahoo Group and posted a link onto DIGG thinking hey I might get one or two other people who feel the same way. At the time of this post it looks like it might make “100″ DIGGS today and I have “48″ new friends who feel the same way that I do. The JFC forums on HBO’s site are absolutely flooded with viewers begging for its return and a few people have posted video’s on YouTube.

I have found that there are loyal follows for quite a few other shows that they have recently shit canned. You would hope that there is someone over at HBO and would monitor these things and see that there is a big market for shows like this and continue to produce them but just offer them thru another time slot or distribution channel. I don’t get it HBO promotes them selves as producing original series, but just when they create the most original series ever, they can it. All of the chatter on the web just leads me to believe that the ratings systems that the HBO execs are using don’t take into consideration what people are really asking for.

Lets organize and convince HBO that they made a mistake and Save John From Cincinnati. Digg this to get the word out

http://digg.com/television/Save_John_From_Cincinnati

Be sure to join the group so that we can continue to spread the message to HBO that they shouldn’t take the Yost Family away from us, and post your comments so they can see how you feel.

“I don’t know Butchie, instead. “

Spock Search

21 05 2007

After seeing Spock present at the Web2.0 Conference I have been anxiously awaiting my invitation to their service. Well I got it today, and was really let down to find out that their site was immediately flooded. I know it is beta, but come on guys, you knew that the site was going to get pounded, plan for it better. Another thing that I immediately disliked is the request to login to my email provider to download my contacts (you want my username and password?). I first saw this used on Yelp, and curiosity made me try it out, but afterward I was so paranoid that I went back and changed my email account password. Fortunately this is an optional request, though I didn’t even see the “Skip this step” link until someone pointed it out to me.

Well I hope Spock gets more servers up soon so I can enjoy this new service. It looked pretty bad ass at the conference.

Oh, how time flys…

10 05 2007

Damn, I can’t believe it has almost been a month. Since it has been so long since my last post I figured that I should at least put something out there for the 2 readers that I have. I tried blogging the Web 2.0 conference and my trip to San Francisco, but it didn’t work out so good. I guess I am just not true blogger material yet. I will work on it, and eventually I will get there. I had a great trip and experienced a lot. I can’t say that I actually “learned” a whole lot from the conference, but I was introduced to a lot and was inspired to build better products. The internet(s) landscape has changed (for the better), and I need to make the leap from a 1.0 way of thinking soon, or I will expire and be lost for ever. I have found renewed curiosity in all things web related and am really trying to evolve to the next level. I found interest in new development processes (Agile, SCRUM), programming / design concepts, and various frameworks options at the conference and hope to continue to discover more and implement just some of the things discussed there. If you haven’t already checked out Tim’s blog, do so now. He was much better at writing about the conference and he and I attended quite a few of the same tracks.

Overall San Francisco was awesome! We spent a ton of time checking out what the city has to offer and only touched the surface of all there is. I will most surely be going back and next time I will try to stay much longer. Check out my Flickr photos and see what I saw. Oh, yeah if you see Osiris or know of him, tell him we said hello. Also, drop me a comment and tell me your experience with this “being” (I’m still not convinced that he was human, but he was amazing). Any way gotta go make a couple bucks to pay off the trip, but here are a couple of things that I recently came across. I will probably be posting more of these types of things in the future.

Cool Web Apps

I have noticed that a lot of Web Apps integrate with Flickr these days. Both, Picnik / Scrapblog are pretty amazing pieces of software. Both of these apps allow the user seamless access to the photos on Flickr(and other services). They also allow the user to post their creations back to Flickr or quickly publish them on other blogging sites. By their nature, I think this functionality is important to their success. After experimenting with both of these sites some, I can say that I am throughly amazed by their beauty, functionality, and all around coolness. I think just about any Flickr user will love both of these nuggets.

Tim O’reilly please don’t sue me for using the term

I recently ran across a nice directory of “Web 2.0″ sites on the next. The site www.go2web20.net has a large collection of “Web 2.0″ sites. If you are into this sort of thing you should check it out. I am on a quest to sign up and try out every Web 2.0 site that I can find.
